2012 – A statistical portrait of ageing
Active ageing and solidarity between generations - A statistical portrait of the European Union 2012 has been published by Eurostat.
The publication is composed of six chapters, which cover the topic of ageing: demographics; older people and labour market; transition from work to retirement; well-being, health and healthcare; living conditions and consumption expenditure; participation in society.
Population structure is changing in the EU: at the beginning of 2010, there were 87 million people aged 65 and over, more than 17 % of the total population.
The European Union designated 2012 as the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations.
